ThePerfectAshtray.com was started in July 2009 on a whim. After hours upon hours, weeks after weeks I finally found a keyword (ashtray) that had relatively high search volume and seemed easy to penetrate utilizing my SEO skills.
After the keyword was found I started to search for a decent droppshipper or wholesaler, anything I could find to get up and started quickly. I was so excited that I didnt even care what I spent, I just wanted to get it going. I found a decent priced website and spent only $100 on product. I quickly enlisted my oldest buddy Chris and we started crafting product descriptions.
Update: Within 2 months we were listing for a decent amount of longtail terms that didn’t have much volume or competition. We saw enough traffic and few sales to keep us motivated to work on the store as time allowed on week nights and random weekends.
We found some suppliers that were willing to dropship and had some decent margins on their products.
The rest is history…
